ASUU isn't on strike but may resume action over unresolved 2025 agreement issues.




ASUU is not currently on a nationwide strike, but it has recently threatened to reactivate national industrial action if outstanding issues regarding the December 2025 FGN-ASUU Agreement are not fully addressed. [1, 2]



However, the major local update involves Lagos State-owned universities, where the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) officially suspended its indefinite strike. [1, 2]

1. Lagos State Universities Call Off Strike

Lecturers at three state-owned universities have been ordered to resume academic activities immediately following successful negotiations with the Lagos State Government over staff welfare and the domestication of the 2025/2026 academic agreements. [1, 2]
The suspension applies to Lagos State University (LASU), Lagos State University of Education (LASUED), and the Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH). [1]


2. Nationwide Strike Threats

On the national front, the ASUU National Executive Council (NEC), led by President Prof. Christopher Piwuna, warned that the union could still call for a nationwide strike "without any further notice". The national body is demanding: [1, 2]Full implementation of the December 2025 Federal Government agreement.
The payment of the remaining 3.5 months of withheld salaries.
