Moove Gifts Drivers Billions In Shock Exit

Moove is exiting the Nigerian market after six years of operations, transferring full ownership of eligible vehicles valued at approximately ₦35 billion to its customers at no extra cost.

Key Details of the Exit

• Effective Date: The vehicle ownership transfer took effect on October 1, 2026, with the company formally announcing the wind-down in October 2026.

• Impacted Drivers: Over 9,000 customers across its drive-to-own and rental programs will gain outright ownership of their cars without making any further installment payments.

• Employee Bonus: All Nigerian staff members of Moove will also receive a free car as part of the exit package.

• Context: The departure follows closely behind the exit of ride-hailing giant Uber (a key partner and investor) from Nigeria, which heavily impacted the operational and financial model for local drivers.

• Initiative: Moove termed the vehicle giveaway its “Thank You Nigeria” initiative to honor the drivers, employees, and communities that supported its growth from a Lagos start-up into an international mobility brand.
